Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany’s father, Pierre, has won polls for the municipality of Ganshoren in Brussels.
Pierre Kompany 71,went into active politics in 2006, where he became a councillor and in 2014 he won a seat in the Brussels regional parliament.
Vincent and his brother Francois, who also plays football for Belgian side KSV Roeselare congratulated their father on social media.
“History! We are so proud of you dad,” he wrote. “He’s the first black mayor in Belgium – it’s never happened before, it’s historic…. congratulations to my dad!” Said Vincent
Pierre was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo migrated to Belgium in 1975 as a refugee.
