In an era defined by climate chaos and rising conflict, the Africa Centre for Sustainable and Inclusive Development (Africa CSID) has stepped forward with a powerful new report spotlighting the vital role of women in climate resilience and peacebuilding across Africa.
Titled Women’s Agency in Peacebuilding Amid Climate-Induced Conflict, the report was unveiled during a high-level event that brought together policymakers, researchers, and activists committed to advancing gender-responsive climate action.
Senator Moses Kajwang’, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Caucus on Climate Action, lauded the initiative as a “timely intervention in an era where the intersection of gender, climate, and conflict is no longer theoretical but painfully lived across Africa.”
“This report adds a much-needed layer to national and continental dialogues on climate justice,” he said. “We must move women from the periphery of decision-making into the engine rooms of climate governance.”
The report delivers an unflinching analysis of how women often bearing the brunt of climate shocks are also the unsung heroines driving conflict resolution, environmental stewardship, and sustainable community solutions. From pastoralist women negotiating for water and grazing rights to grassroots peacebuilders working in fragile, conflict-affected zones, the report celebrates female agency, resilience, and leadership.
Dr. Salome, a key figure at Africa CSID, expressed deep appreciation to all who contributed to the research and the event. “This work is a collective victory for those advancing the climate-peace-gender nexus,” she said.
The launch featured vibrant panel discussions, firsthand testimonies from women on the frontlines, and a passionate plea to governments, donors, and civil society: integrate, amplify, and fund women-led climate peace efforts before it’s too late.
As climate-induced tensions continue to fuel instability from the Sahel to the Horn of Africa, Africa CSID’s report arrives as a bold and urgent call to action elevating the power, voice, and promise of African women shaping a more peaceful and sustainable future.
