The Azimio flag bearer Raila Odinga has said he will finance aspirants in the Mt Kenya region who will aggressively campaign for him.
Odinga said a section of aspirants from the vote-rich region appeared to have boycotted associating themselves with his presidential bid and were packaging themselves as Jubilee Party aspirants.
“We want foot soldiers who are brave and optimistic. In Mt Kenya, we know it might be tougher than in other areas. But keep the faith and remain committed to the cause. We have other fronts performing very well in this war and I guarantee you that we are winning,” Raila said.
The former premier noted that he knows the foot soldiers require ‘guns and bullets’ (financing) to face the battle, so those who show seriousness will benefit a lot.
Raila was responding to concerns raised by Gatanga MP Joseph Nduati Ngugi, who said they were out of ammunition and that is why they appear to be retreating.
“We are doing an audit check on our loyal foot soldiers so that we do not end up arming an enemy that might have infiltrated us,” Ngugi said
He said billboards and posters of all aspirants in Azimio in the region must have Raila’s image.
“It will be critical that all aspirants are contesting under the Azimio ticket offer evidence that they are committed to our cause. This is through making available campaign materials that prominently have the Raila presidential bid as our commitment,” he added.
Ngugi’s sentiments were initiated by Murang’a woman representative aspirant Evelyne Waithera, who had claimed that aspirants from the region need “special assistance” to campaign for Raila Odinga effectively and to the man.
