Bomet County Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok was on Thursday 6th February arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of embezzling of county funds.
The governors residence was raised by the on EACC officers as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of conflict of interest and embezzlement of public funds in Bomet County. He was later taken to the EACC South Rift Regional Offices in Nakuru to record a statement.
EACC officers confirmed the governor was under their custody facilitating with the operation that started in the early morning, target various establishments that are associated with him.
“Yes, it is true that Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok is in the custody of EACC detectives in Bomet County facilitating an operation that commenced this morning, targeting various premises associated with him.
“The operation is part of ongoing investigations into allegations of conflict of interest and theft of public funds in Bomet County, where the Governor is a suspect. He will later be escorted to the EACC South Rift Regional Offices in Nakuru for statement recording,” EACC official said.
In November 2024, part of the elected leaders from the county had invited the EACC officers to investigate the governor over the alleged missmanagement of county funds.
