At least 20 people are feared dead as a Modern Coast bus they were traveling in plunged into a notorious blackspot.
The accident happened after the Mombasa-bound bus, on Sunday, July 24, veered off the Nithi Bridge after the driver lost control of the 57-seater PSV at the famous Tharaka Nithis blackspot.
Responders who rushed to the scene including a section of motorists plying the route, launched a rescue mission to pull out survivors from the wreck. A team from the Tharaka Nithi County Fire and Rescue team has also been deployed to the scene.
The Modern Coast bus is said to have lost brakes, hitting an oncoming vehicle before plunging 40 feet into the river below.
The police who were at the accident scene as that the survivors being rushed to PCEA Chogoria Mission Hospital and the Chuka County Referral Hospital.
