Gor Mahia treasurer Dolfina Odhiambo has declared she will run for chairman in the upcoming club elections.
Addressing a press conference in Nairobi on Monday morning, Dolfina said it’s time for the Kenya Premier League Champions to have fresh leadership that will guide Gor Mahia into the next chapter of its storied history.
‘’ its is essential for the club to embrace new ideas, new energy, and a forward-looking approach, especially as we face critical decisions regarding governance, financial management, and club operations. As such, we believe that the club must transition into a new leadership team that will take it to greater heights’’ said Dolfina Odhiambo
However, Dolfina has claimed that the current chairman, Ambrose Rachier, is deliberately attempting to sabotage the elections by extending his term.
‘’As you are aware, Gor Mahia Elections ought to have been conducted in August last year (2024). The delays were but deliberate attempts by the current club chairman to try and extend his illegal term’’ Dolfina Said.
Last week, the Sports Tribunal directed Gor Mahia to hold the election within 90 days. This ruling comes after the club’s executive committee, which has been in power since 2020, was found to be operating beyond its legal term, thus prompting the tribunal’s intervention.
As part of the order, three significant conditions have been put in place, which will guide the election process and ensure compliance with the Sports Act of 2013.
The tribunal also ordered the existing executive committee, led by chairman Ambrose Rachier, to continue to oversee the club’s activities during this transitional period, ensuring a smooth handover once the elections are conducted.
