Machakos, Kenya.
Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has warmly welcomed Roam’s expansion into the region, positioning the electric mobility company’s arrival as a landmark moment for sustainable development in the county. Speaking at the launch event held at the TotalEnergies Mua View Service Station along Kitui Road, Governor Ndeti emphasized how Roam’s investment aligns perfectly with Machakos’ vision for clean energy and youth empowerment.
The Governor personally demonstrated her support by test-riding the Roam Air electric motorcycle, showcasing its ability to handle the county’s challenging terrain. “This is exactly the kind of innovation we want to encourage in Machakos,” Governor Ndeti remarked. “Not only do these electric bikes reduce pollution, but they also put more money in our riders’ pockets by cutting fuel costs. It’s a win for our environment, our economy, and our hardworking boda boda operators.”
Governor Ndeti highlighted how Roam’s expansion represents the type of sustainable investment Machakos County is actively seeking. She pointed to the economic benefits already visible, from new job opportunities in the green transport sector to the reduced operating costs for local riders who can now charge their bikes for a fraction of petrol expenses. The Governor also noted the symbolic importance of having electric mobility services operating alongside traditional fuel stations, calling it “a powerful example of how we can transition to cleaner energy while creating inclusive growth.”
The county leader used the occasion to issue a broader invitation to potential investors, emphasizing Machakos’ readiness to support clean energy initiatives. “To any business looking to invest in renewable energy, electric mobility, or other sustainable technologies, know that Machakos County offers an ideal environment with supportive policies and a population eager to embrace green solutions,” Governor Ndeti stated. She pointed to the successful integration of Roam’s services as proof that sustainable business models can thrive in the region.
Local boda boda operators shared the Governor’s enthusiasm, with many noting how the electric motorcycles perform exceptionally well on Machakos’ hills while significantly reducing their daily operating costs. The launch of the Roam Hub Charging Station in Machakos Town was particularly welcomed, as it provides riders with convenient access to charged batteries, minimizing downtime between rides.
Governor Ndeti concluded her remarks by reaffirming her administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for green investments. “Roam’s success here is just the beginning,” she said. “We will continue working to make Machakos County the destination of choice for businesses that share our vision of sustainable development and clean energy innovation.” The event marked a significant step forward in the county’s green transition, demonstrating how public-private partnerships can drive meaningful change at the local level while creating models that could be replicated across Kenya.
