It seems that the political migrations are not yet over. Just 9 days to the election, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko today ditched Azimio La Ummoja headed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to join Kenya Kwanza headed by Deputy President William Ruto a move that shocked many Azimio supporters.
In a post earlier today the happy DP shared a photo of him and Sonko in his office on his Twitter account saying “we welcome @MikeSonko to Kenya Kwanza, the winning team” and before this Sonko is said to have been held up in a meeting behind closed doors in the DP’s office for hours.
Sonko took to his Instagram page and went ahead to share a list of the lucrative jobs and appointments the DP had agreed to offer him in their secret memorandum including a cabinet secretary position. “Below are positions offered to me and my people as captured in the agreement/MOU.
1. One CS National Government.
2. Three PS National Government.
3. Four Ambassadors
4. Three CEC’s Mombasa County
5. Three Chief Mombasa County
6. Two CEC’s Nairobi County
7. Three Chief officers Mombasa County” he said.
While asking his followers whether to join UDA or not Sonko said the following “with your blessings I want to get into this agreement with UDA, So that I can be assured of jobs and opportunities for my Mombasa and Nairobi people” he stated.
Sonko also asked for the blessings of his supporters before signing the deal and also added that “time is not on our side and I have had to sit down as a leader, think about what would be best for my people of and I have come to the realization that I should work with a government that shares the same vision for my people as I and one that benefits them”
What is not clear is whether Sonko has also forfeited his Wiper party membership, a party that he is registered as a life member.
