This year’s presidential race in Kenya is, without doubt, the most intense in Kenya’s history Unlike the other battles for the presidencies this time the campaigns started earlier than usual with both the two top candidates starting their campaigns as early as one year ago.
Between the two (Raila Odinga and William Ruto), Deputy President William Ruto started his campaign earlier and has traversed all the corners of this country including Raila Odinga’s Nyanza backyard. If you have been following their campaign trail lately you will realize that Ruto has been avoiding Raila’s backyard for almost a year now.
Following Raila Odinga and his Azimio La Ummoja successful campaign in Ruto’s own backyard at Huruma ground in Eldoret town, an event that attracted a mammoth of Azimio supporters in the region.
The DP did not hesitate to express his discomfort towards the issue at hand saying that he cannot go and campaign in Raila Odinga’s backyard the way the former Prime minister held a successful campaign in his backyard.
“It is unfortunate that we cannot go to Kisumu, Siaya, Nyanza, Homa Bay, and Migori because our good friends who pretend to be democrats cannot allow anyone to go to his backyard. We have tried to go. “As the Deputy President, I cannot go to Nyanza because they stoned my vehicles.” He said
Ruto added that the freedom of campaigning in any part of the country should not be subjected to any form of hostility given the fact that the constitution states that any has a right to campaign in any part of the country without objections
