Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General and Nairobi County aspiring Senator has addressed what unfolded between him and the Kileleshwa aspiring Member Of the County Assembly (Robert Alai) at the Azimio la Umoja rally on Sunday.
Speaking in an interview at the Capital Fm, he explained that what unfolded was not a fight but a safety issue contrary to what was circulated in the social circles.
“It was just a safety issue, that was my vehicle, and as you know cars have a carrying capacity….he is not a light guy,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna said Robert Alai had climbed on top of his car despite having reached its carrying capacity, and in order to avoid a bad accident from happening due to overloading, he had “ease him off”
“I was trying to tell him to get off because we were just too many people on the vehicle but he did not want to listen, so I had to ease him off,” he said.
“No, I don’t think that it is as bad as many people want to make it look. It was actually a safety issue. There are always so many people you can have and Alai is not a light guy,” Sifuna stated
The ODM Secretay general said that his car was really damaged from the campaign trail that day
“If I show you my windshield now, it is shattered, I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Pajero that I use for the campaigns, and I took it to the shop to have a roof rack installed. So if you are going to come in my car, please come to the top,” he added.
In the video that has since gone viral, Alai is seen climbing Sifuna’s vehicle where he was standing with other Azimio leaders.
Contrary to Sifuna’s explanation, earlier reports had indicated that the scuffle was a result of Robert Alai being denied a chance to address the crowd in the Azimio rally.
“Aaah…we are friends, we are at the same party and I do wish him all the best as he is running for Kileleshwa MCA. I hope that he wins it because we need numbers in the house. Really there is nothing to it,”
