The Kenya society of the blind has stepped up its training program to health workers on how to use Tele-refraction machine in different health facilities.
The society last week kicks off the program by training a number of community health volunteers at Matuu sub-county hospital in Machakos County.
The training exercise was led by Mr. Solomon Bukhala, Head of Programs and Mr Raphael Okumu from OneSight kenya.
According to mr Solomon Bukhala, the training of the CHVs majorly focused on how to identify and attend to patients with refractive errors.
Refractive error means that the shape of your eye does not bend light correctly, resulting in a blurred image. The main types of refractive errors are myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia (loss of near vision with age), and astigmatism.
Bukhala also reveals that the training exercise aims at equipping CHVs and other health officers across the country.
