The government has declared Monday, July 11th as a public holiday to mark Idd–ul –Adha
In the Gazette notice issued on Friday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i declared.
“It is notified that in the exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, July 11, 2022, a public holiday marking Idd–ul –Adha,” the gazette notice dated 8th July 2022 reads.
Idd–ul –Adha also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, is the second and the biggest celebration within Islam.
In Kenya, celebrations to mark the holiday will begin on Saturday, July 9, and end on the evening of Sunday, July 10.
This day honors the willingness of the Islamic Prophet Ibrahim, also known as Abraham, to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah’s command.
