Former Bungoma Senator Moses Masika Wetangula has been elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly replacing the outgoing Speaker Justine Muturi who served for two terms in the Jubilee administration.
Moses Wengula was fronted by President-Elect William Ruto garnered 215 votes against his competitor Kenneth Marende who withdrew from the race after garnering 130 votes in the first round of voting.
Voting was supposed to go to the second round for the winner to get 233 votes as required by the constitution.
Papa was Roma has since been sworn in after taking the oath of office on the floor of the house, with outgoing Speaker Justine Muturi formally congratulating and handing over the reins to him.
In his acceptance speech after being sworn in, the Ford Kenya Party leader promised to focus on enhancing public trust, as well as upholding cooperation between the Parliament and the Senate.
