Musician and Mathare Member Of Parliament aspirant Kevin Kioko alias Bahati has suffered another blow after the Azimio One Coalition settled on Anthony Oluoch as their preferred candidate in Mathare Constituency.
Speaking on Monday, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna said that the agreement was reached after a joint delegates’ meeting of ODM and Jubilee Party chaired by Raila Odinga.
Bahati was reportedly requested to step aside for Oluoch with a promise that he will get a job in the Azimio administration.
“Our colleagues from Jubilee will be presenting their candidates from eight constituencies and those from ODM will present some from eight constituencies,”
“Zoning was done perfectly even here in Mathare we have agreed that it’s an ODM zone. We only have one candidate in Mathare and that is Anthony Oluoch, this young man called Bahati is my younger brother and we will talk. I will make sure that we find him another position within the Azimio government.” Sifuna said
Ministry Of Public Service, Youth And Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh, also attended the meeting where she also urged Bahati to step down for the ODM’S candidate Anthony Oluoch who is running for his second term.
According to the Former Nairobi Woman Representative, even Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi was requested to skip his gubernatorial ambition in order to support Igathe who is now the preferred candidate for the Nairobi governor race under Azimio.
” We have talked with Bahati several times asking him to work with us in the larger government. Bahati you are not even at the level of Tim Wanyonyi who dropped his bid to be Nairobi governor, “ Shebesh said.
Last week on Friday,Azimio Coalition Council Meeting chaired by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed set up a committee to harmonize and rationalize the candidates in areas where multiple candidates are likely to cost the coalition party seats.
“After reviewing various reports regarding the party’s ongoing campaign preparations for the general election and other matters related to the election, the Council; discussed and approved a strategy to synergize the strength brought by each party to the coalition by rationalizing and harmonizing candidates in all elective positions and mandated each constituent party to implement the strategy,” Junet said.
A few weeks ago, Adhiambo hitmaker was named the Jubilee MP Candidate for Mathare in a ceremony that was attended by the Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni among other leaders.
Recently, Bahati was requested to shelve his ambitions in favor of an ODM candidate following Azimio-One Kenya coalition zoning.
“I know there is zoning and Mathare has been zoned as an ODM area but for this one time, give the youth of this country. Give the people of Mathare a chance to get the leader they have always wanted.” Bahati said.
