The Council today entered into an agreement with the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to administer its educational support to students with disabilities studying in institutions of higher learning and training. Hence, all grants by NCPWD for TVET and University students will be disbursed through HELB under the new NCPWD Education Grant Scheme.
The students will also receive maximum bursary from HELB and loan on any amount given.
The agreement was signed by Executive Director Harun Hassan and HELB CEO CPA Charles Ringera.
This new approach will address issues of duplications of support to ensure wider reach, inconsistencies in assistance across academic years, and also aid in data generation, sharing and analysis.
This will be crucial in establishing career progression and mentorship programmes aimed at ultimately giving graduates with disabilities a shot in the job market.
