The newly elected Members Of Parliament orientation day has been set for the 25th and 26th of August.
The acting clerk of the National Assembly Serah Kioko said that during the orientation period, the new members-elect will submit their bio-data, receive their parliament identification cards, and briefing on the parliament voting system.
They will also be taken on a tour of Parliament buildings and also will receive briefs from the Office of the Clerk on essential legislative matters.
“The members-elect will also be facilitated to register for various services and facilities available including medical insurance, and other related services,” she said.
This orientation is in accordance with Standing Order 259F. The members will be required to submit their election certificates which were issued to them by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission returning officers.
All the Members of the Parliament of the 12th parliament who did not manage to win in the just concluded elections are expected to clear their desks to facilitate a smooth transition of the 13th parliament.
This pre-swearing-in orientation precedes the appointment of the date and place of the first sitting by the President (through a gazette notice), in line with Article 126 (2) of the Constitution.
The clerks will handle the oath during the first sitting and then the speaker and the deputy will be elected in the same period.
The swearing-in exercise will go on without the three constituencies, Kitui Rural, Kacheliba, Pokot South and Rongai constituencies since elections for those areas have not been conducted.
