Pakistani President Arif Alvi on Monday said the death “Is a great loss to journalism and Pakistan”.
In a statement on his official Twitter account, President Alvi described Arshad Sharif as a great mind in journalism and as God to give his family the strength to bear the loss.
“May his soul rest in peace and may his family, which includes his followers, have the strength to bear this loss”.
The renowned Pakistani journalist was shot dead Sunday night along the Nairobi-Magadi highway in what police have termed as “mistaken identity”.
His wife Javeria Siddique confirmed the death early Monday morning via her social media handle.
“I lost my friend, husband, and my favorite journalist Arshad Sharif today, as per police he was shot in Kenya. Respect our privacy and in the name of breaking please don’t share our family pics, personal details and his last pictures from the hospital. Remember us in your prayers, ” mourned his wife in a social media post.
Details of the death of the famous Pakistan TV show host remain scanty, friends and family mourning his demise have however said he was killed in a ‘gun attack’.
The award-winning journalist was vocally opposed to the ongoing political developments in Pakistan. Sharif specialized in investigative journalism and covered many political events in his country for national and international news organizations.
