With few days remaining to the election, pressure is surely mounting on all the members of the electorate body IEBC and more so the commissioners and the chairman of the commission Wafula Chebukati.
Chebukati and his wife didn’t shy away from letting the public know that the pressure is really mounting on them. speaking to the press in a prayer meeting held by the commission at the Bomas of Kenya, the commission’s chair went ahead to ask Kenyans and the clergy to pray for them and their families.
“Behind the scenes for all of us are our families, the ones who suffer silently you may not know but our wives and children need prayers because in whatever we do, they also have their friends and belong to various groups. They need prayers so that they can stand with us in this journey,” he said.
He also added that their staff faces harassment and needs prayers. “please pray for the IEBC staff. Those involved in the national tallying center, the returning officers in the 47 counties and 290 constituencies, the clerks who will be at polling stations, the presiding officers.”
Chebukati in his request to Kenyans also urged Kenyans to also pray for the police who without them the electoral process will be difficult to manage.
Chebukati’s statements come weeks after his wife Mary urged Kenyans to pray for the Chairman whose work has kept him away from his family.
While speaking to mourners at a funeral she attended, she said “Please pray for our family, especially during this electioneering period.
All I know is my husband wants to follow the law” she said and also added that “Most times we see him on TV even more than we see him physically because of his work but I’m thankful he is here today”
