Principal Secretary for the State Department of Mining, Elijah Mwangi, has outlined significant strides the Ministry of Mining is undertaking to streamline the sector and ensure equitable growth. Speaking on the sidelines of the Kenya Mining and Investment Conference, PS Mwangi emphasized that the government is working to create a sustainable and inclusive framework to benefit all stakeholders in the industry.
Mwangi revealed that the Ministry has introduced and is refining policies aimed at ensuring mutual benefits for investors, communities, and the government. These policies are designed to create a fair and transparent operating environment while attracting local and foreign investment into Kenya’s mining sector.
“We are keen to strike a balance that ensures all parties involved in mining operations enjoy tangible benefits. Our vision is to establish a sector that contributes significantly to Kenya’s economic growth while prioritizing the well-being of communities and stakeholders,” he stated.

Beyond economic considerations, Mwangi reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to environmental conservation. He acknowledged that mining activities, if unregulated, could pose serious environmental risks. To mitigate this, the government is enforcing strict compliance with environmental standards and encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly practices across the industry.
“The protection of our environment is non-negotiable. We are actively working on frameworks to ensure sustainable mining practices that align with global environmental standards,” Mwangi added.
The Kenya Mining and Investment Conference serves as a platform for industry players, investors, and policymakers to engage in dialogue and explore opportunities within the mining sector. With these reforms, Kenya aims to position itself as a competitive and responsible player in the global mining landscape.
As the Ministry continues to implement these transformative measures, stakeholders are optimistic that the sector will experience significant growth, creating jobs and fostering economic development across the country.El Sabai
