A section of prisoners at Kisumu prisons have been forced to walk in torn clothes.
A prisoner, who sort anonymous, told a local publication that he is now suffering from chest pains since all his prison uniforms are torn and he also lacks a sweater to protect him during the cold seasons.
“I have complained severally to the officer in charge but all my pleas have fallen on deaf ears,” he said.
Another prisoner said he has been in the same uniform since he was remanded at the facility more than a year ago.
He also claims they have been forced to wash their clothes without soap at some point.
“Whenever I want to wash my clothes, I am always being forced to borrow a friend who has two pairs of uniforms since one is torn beyond repair,” he said.
He claims that his friend who helps him out with his spare uniform only gives him the torn one and not the other new one.
The inmates are now pleading with the concern authority to come to their aid and help them with new uniforms.
“I know we are law-breakers but I am pleading with the police service not to abandon us and at least give us new decent clothes so that we feel that at least we are home. With these torn clothes, we just look like abandoned children,” he said.
