Detectives based in Kileleshwa, Nairobi County on Saturday arrested a robbery suspect while another one escaped following a dramatic chase.
When the officers from the DCI ambushed the two who were allegedly planning to attack two businessmen.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti said that the action was a result of a tip-off received from members of the public, who quickly pounced on the suspects before they staged their attack.
It is reported that the officers cornered the two suspects who were using a motorbike as means of running away along Laikipia Road in Kilimani.
They defied the officers’ orders to surrender and escaped in a different direction leaving their motorbike behind.
“This prompted a chase that pit the thugs against the officers… It wasn’t long before one of the thugs was swept off his feet before he landed on the ground with a thud,” DCI said.
According to the detectives, one of the suspects was attacked by an angry mob that was chasing closely behind and descended on him with blows and kicks, leaving him with serious grave injuries.
“They disfigured his dental arrangement and left him with a swollen eye. The thug writhed on the ground in pain begging for forgiveness,”
The thug who was identified as Eric Musungu from Kawangware 46 was rescued from the angry who were literally baying for his blood after the police as for reinforcement.
He was found to be in possession of a handmade weapon that was loaded with one 9mm round.
Detectives are still looking for the second suspect who managed to escape.
