Facebook users are in shock after a young Kenyan woman living in Canada drowned in a swimming pool and inadvertently live-streamed the tragedy to a legion of followers.
Hellen Wendy had just dipped into the pool to enjoy an afternoon of a summer swim after leaving work.
She looked jovial, getting in and out of the water, wiping her face, and scrolling through the comments as they dripped into the comments section of the live video broadcast from her mobile phone
Hellen Wendy was live-streaming her swimming experience until the moment she drowned and there was no one around to rescue her.
Wendy calls out the names of friends written on her wall. It is now eerie, unforeseen farewell. “Hi there, mko aje. It’s 2 O’clock here…Nimetoka job, Niko pool, I’m just having some fun,” she was heard saying.
One of her friends wrote, “Tafuta pesa utuletee”, before she dived back into the pool, the deeper end. The pool, which is in an apparently affluent neighborhood, is ringed with a white picket fence.
All was fun until the 10th minute when she disappeared into the deep end of the swimming pool; she would be seen later struggling to salvage herself as occasional screams were heard.
She was overpowered by the tides inside the pool and everything went silent.
The video also captures an elderly Caucasian man in briefs dipping into the now-chilly pool (“oh, ah”, he sighs). Moments later, he is heard conversing with another man over ‘what’s that died on the water….I think it’s a poodle or something.’
“If was actually a dead person, they’d be floating at the top,” one of the voices is heard saying. a voice was heard.
